Billiards in Surrey, British Columbia on the outskirts of Vancouver,
hosted the 4th Pechauer Tour Stop of the season November 29th
and 30th. Brent Babcock kicked things off Saturday morning with
a player’s auction. He did a phenomenal job drawing everyone
into the action raising over $3500 in the side event.
Play ran smooth throughout Saturday and the final 8 who made
it to the money rounds returned Sunday morning to duke it out.
The winner’s side saw friends and favorites Mike Vidas
against Brady Gollan and Paul Potier against John Horsfall.
On the one-loss side, Simon Pickering met Frenchie and Randy
White squared off against Mike Harry. Pickering disposed of
Frenchie with a decisive 9-3 victory, while Mike Harry battled
out a 9-6 win over Randy White. Horsfall fell back to face Mike
Harry after a crushing 11-3 blow from Potier; and turned around
to deliver an 11-2 whomping on Harry. Vidas fell back to face
his buddy Simon Pickering after struggling out of an 11-6 loss
to Brady Gollan; and also turned his loss into a crushing 11-2
blow to Pickering. Vidas and Horsfall then faced one another,
while Brady Gollan played the hot seat match against Paul Potier.
Potier, due to embark soon on his "honeymoon tour",
was playing beautifully all day. He took a 10-1 lead against
Gollan before Brady really had a chance to stroke his cue! With
a valiant effort to get back in the match, Gollan was defeated
at 11-4. Horsfall and Vidas played near perfect as well, but
Vidas ended up rolling the balls a hair better than Horsfall
and finished off the set at 11-8. Vidas then wasted no time
taking his revenge upon Brady Gollan in the third place position
for a chance at Potier in the finals. Before anyone knew it
the set against Gollan was through at 11-3.
This set up a student-teacher showdown between Vidas and Potier.
Both competitors had torn up their opponents like pit bulls
with new chew toys, so how would they do against one another?
The Kid’s break was working well for him as he smashed
in 2 to 4 balls at every turn. Given the opportunity, Potier
could out maneuver Vidas, but they were coming few and far between.
In one turn, Vidas hooked Potier who calmly pulled out his jump
cue and performed a precise over handed, one-handed jump shot
to continue shooting. He just couldn’t outrun The Kid’s
powerful break and ability to run. The final score was 13-7.
